This exploratory study examined how classroom management methods in Chinese universities could lead to loss of face.  Content analysis of participant interviews revealed that fear of being perceived as academically inferior by one’s peers was more likely to lead to face loss than were classroom management methods. Pedagogical implications are discussed.
