Dropout is a continuing problem in adult ESL education.  Adults who have not mastered the English language skills necessary to function successfully in American society are at risk socially, emotionally, and financially.  Teachers can minimize attrition by providing programs that identify individual needs, specify goals, and give effective instruction.
